TITLE OF BILL:
An act
changing the name of
Georgetown-South Otselic
to the Otselic Valley Central School District at Georgetown-South
Otselic

PURPOSE:
To permit the name of Georgetown-South Otselic to be changed to the
Otselic Valley Central School District at Georgetown-South Otselic.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 authorizes and directs the commissioner of education to
change the official name of Georgetown-South Otselic to the Otselic
Valley Central School District at Georgetown-South Otselic.

EXISTING LAW:
Currently, the legal name of the school district is Georgetown-South
Otselic.

JUSTIFICATION:
Although the legal name of the school district is Georgetown-South
Otselic, residents refer to the district by, and it continues to
operate under the name Otselic Valley Central School at
Georgetown-South Otselic. However, the school district is required to
use its legal name when it files reports with the New York State
Education Department, when it applies for grants, and when it enters
into contracts. This legislation is being introduced at the request
of the school district.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
On the thirtieth day after being signed into law.

AN ACT changing the name of  Georgetown-South  Otselic  to  the  Otselic
 Valley Central School District at Georgetown-South Otselic
 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, rule  or  regu
 lation  to the contrary, the commissioner of education is hereby author
 ized, empowered and directed to change the official name of  Georgetown
 South   Otselic  to  the  Otselic  Valley  Central  School  District  at
 Georgetown-South Otselic.    The  education  department  shall  issue  a
 certificate  certifying  the  name  of  the district and the name of the
 towns and counties in which the territory of the district is located.
 

S 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day  after  it  shall
 have become a law.
