AN ACT to legalize, validate, ratify and confirm the  abolition  of  the
 Sanford  Fire District by the town of Sanford, in the county of Broome
 and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration there
 of
 THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

Section  1. Notwithstanding any provision of the town law or insurance
 law, all proceedings and actions taken by the town  of  Sanford  in  the
 county  of  Broome,  in relation to the abolition of the offices of fire
 district commissioners of the Sanford  Fire  District  and  transfer  of
 their functions to the town board and town supervisor, including execut
 ing contracts for fire protection, redistributing foreign fire insurance
 premium  tax  funds  and  the establishment of any account of funds from
 real property taxes of the fire district, are  hereby  legalized,  vali
 dated, ratified and confirmed.
 

S  2.  Notwithstanding  the defects described in section one, the town
 board  of  the  town  of  Sanford  is  hereby  authorized  to   initiate
 proceedings  pursuant  to  article  17-A of the general municipal law to
 dissolve the Sanford Fire District as if the town board were the govern
 ing body of the Sanford Fire District.
 

S 3. This act shall take effect immediately; and shall expire  and  be
 deemed repealed on July 1, 2012.
