Introduced by M. of A. ABBATE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Governmental Employees AN ACT to amend the general municipal law, in relation to training of fire officers in cities of one million or more THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The general municipal law is amended by adding a new section 209-ff to read as follows:
S 209-FF. TRAINING OF FIRE OFFICERS. IN A CITY WITH A POPULATION OF ONE MILLION OR MORE, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF SUCH CITY, IN COORDINATION WITH THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT OF SUCH CITY, SHALL NO LATER THAN JULY FIRST, TWO THOUSAND FOURTEEN, PROVIDE TO ALL FIRE OFFICERS OF SUCH CITY AT LEAST FORTY HOURS OF FIELD TRAINING AND CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION IN THE FIRE CODE OF SUCH CITY AND AT LEAST FORTY HOURS OF FIELD TRAINING AND CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION IN THE BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION CODES AND LOCAL ORDINANCES OF SUCH CITY, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON THE INSPECTION DUTIES OF FIRE OFFICERS AND ANY PERTINENT CHANGES IN SUCH DUTIES RESULTING FROM THE ENACTMENT OF OR ANY AMENDMENT TO ANY OF SUCH CODES THAT TOOK EFFECT ON OR AFTER JULY FIRST, TWO THOUSAND EIGHT.
