ATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jackie Lin upon the occasion of ing the distinguished Girl Scout Gold Award, the most prestigious uting honors S, Jackie Lin, through her diligence and rigorous efforts, has ed Scouting's highest and most prestigious honor, the Girl Scout Award; she will receive the award at a Gold Award ceremony on ay, June 11, 2011; and EAS, Jackie Lin, the daughter of Maria Wang, is a member of Girl of America Ambassador Troop 4-772, Girl Scout Council of Greater rk, sponsored by the Conron Camp Foundation; and EAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through edication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding ns of this nation; and EAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and EAS, Girl Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to the pment of character and leadership in the youth of this nation; and EAS, Since 1980, Senior Girl Scouts have capped their years of ement in Girl Scouting with the Girl Scout Gold Award; and EAS, In order to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, a girl must l five requirements; chief among them is the design and completion old Award Project; this project must build upon the interests of rl, provide a service to the community, and be of lasting benefit; EAS, For her Gold Award Project, entitled TMI: Too Much Informa- Jackie Lin and Julia Lu decided to work together to raise aware- bout online safety; and EAS, Today many teenagers and even younger children are tech-sav- le to gain access to a lot of useful information on line as well sites for social and entertainment purposes; and EAS, Many parents, though, may not know how to address the issue ernet safety with their children, whether they be teenagers or r; Jackie Lin and Julia Lu wanted to teach kids about the poten- angers and also wanted to provide the tools for keeping their e experience enjoyable but safe; and EAS, During the Fall of 2010 through Winter 2011, they hosted ops at local libraries and at Girl Scout and Cub Scout meetings; h surveys completed by participants, they discovered the partic- learned a lot about being online and about helping to strengthen safety they hadn't known before; and EAS, The respondents reported they felt more educated about the t and planned to implement the things they learned to maintain a environment for themselves and the kids around them; and EAS, Jackie Lin and Julia Lu also hosted and managed a blog dedi- to on-line safety which had an audience of teenagers and younger en alike; and EAS, An outstanding young woman, Jackie Lin has been involved in ng for years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained the necessary achievements for the Girl Scout Gold Award; and EAS, Jackie Lin is a credit to her family, her school, her commu- her State and her nation, and no doubt her future will be filled ccomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it LVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in ition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to tulate and honor Jackie Lin upon the occasion of her designation ipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award; and be it further LVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran- d to Jackie Lin.
