LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of SUNY Adirondack WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa- tional professionals and the students they inspire; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and commend those exemplary institutions of higher education within the State of New York which have brought pride and honor to our State and Nation through their traditions of academic excellence; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long- standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem- orate the 50th Anniversary of SUNY Adirondack on Saturday, September 17, 2011, in Queensbury, New York; and WHEREAS, This special event is "Homecoming Saturday" and will feature the first annual Tour D'Education Bike Rally; the college's first Home- coming celebration coincides with the 50th anniversary of its first convocation held by then President Charles R. Eisenhart on September 17, 1961; and WHEREAS, SUNY Adirondack was founded in 1961 as Adirondack Community College; in August of 1983, the Adirondack Community College Foundation was established to provide student scholarships; and WHEREAS, SUNY Adirondack is a public, two-year, open access, compre- hensive community college; the college is dedicated to the delivery of affordable, high-quality transfer, career and technical credit programs along with credit-free classes that support lifelong learning and work- force development opportunities and support services that promote student success; and WHEREAS, SUNY Adirondack is committed to the support and advancement of community economic development and is an active participant in enhancing the intellectual, social and cultural life of its community; the college also partners with four-year, degree-granting institutions to provide access to those degrees on the SUNY Adirondack campus; and WHEREAS, In June of 2010, the State University of New York (SUNY) authorized Adirondack Community College to use SUNY Adirondack as its name, thereby retiring the name Adirondack Community College; and WHEREAS, Ably led by President Ronald C. Heacock, Ph.D., SUNY Adiron- dack continues to prosper today and into the future; and WHEREAS, With great admiration, this Legislative Body is proud to pay tribute to this eminent academic institution which stands at the thresh- old of the future with its legacy of outstanding achievements and its impressive body of distinguished faculty and alumni; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of SUNY Adirondack; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran- smitted to Dr. Ronald C. Heacock, President, SUNY Adirondack.
