 ATIVE  RESOLUTION  commemorating  the  35th Annual Parade of Three
 Day

 S, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping  with  its
 onored  traditions,  to  recognize and pay tribute to those events
 foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of cultural  diversity
 strengthens the fabric of the communities of New York State; and
 EAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
 ng traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commem-
  the  35th  Annual  Parade  of  Three  Kings Day, the Feast of the
 ny, to be celebrated in East Harlem, New York on  Friday,  January
 2; and
 EAS, This momentous occasion marks the end of the Christmas season
 this  particular  festivity, a tradition in Latin American culture
 g the day the Three Kings brought gifts to baby Jesus; and
 EAS, The colorful and lively celebration is also known as Epiphany
 rks the end of the 12 days of Christmas; thousands of children are
 ed to march in this event; and
 EAS, Leading the parade is poet, playwright and performance artist
 Papoleto Melendez; joining him as honorary kings include: composer
 nger Johnny Colon, of the Johnny Colon Orchestra; author Nicholasa
 and writer, essayist Esmerelda Santiago; and
 EAS, The Spanish speaking world marks Three Kings Day, an  ancient
 ation  that commemorates the visit of Melchior, Caspar and Baltha-
  the baby Jesus in Bethlehem; and
 EAS, Each country in Latin America  has  its  particular  customs,
 f which have been transported and somewhat adapted to Latino homes
  New York State as well as throughout the United States; and
 EAS,  Dominican  and Puerto Rican children leave dry grass for the
  under their beds; in Argentina and Mexico, they leave their shoes
 anied with grass or a letter outside  their  rooms  or  under  the
  everywhere,  the kids, at least the well-behaved ones, wake up to
