 LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Hazel Fleegel upon the occasion of
 celebrating her 100th Birthday
 WHEREAS,  Senior  citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
 the increasingly active roles they play in today's society;  their  past
 contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
 asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
 WHEREAS,  Hazel Fleegel was born on April 9, 1912, in Minoa, New York;
 and
 WHEREAS, In 1933, Hazel Fleegel married Donald Gallery and subsequent
 ly had two children, Donald and Joanne Gallery; and
 WHEREAS, Widowed when her children were young, Hazel Fleegel  provided
 for  her  family  by  holding  various  jobs during the Depression which
 included working at Continental Can and later soldering  televisions  at
 the General Electric Plant in Syracuse; and
 WHEREAS,  Years  later,  Hazel Fleegel married Earl Fleegel; together,
 the loving couple enjoyed many happy years together; and
 WHEREAS, Hazel Fleegel worked around the corner from her home for  the
 Post  Office  in  Minoa, New York; from this position, she became a well
 known and much beloved member of her community; and
 WHEREAS, Hazel's life was enriched with many  hobbies  which  included
 playing  cards, knitting, and bowling, which she continued well into her
 80s; and
 WHEREAS, Today, Hazel Fleegel's family has  grown  to  consist  of  11
 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; and
 WHEREAS,  Hazel  Fleegel  currently  resides  at  The Sedgwick Heights
 Assisted Living Facility in Syracuse, New York, where, despite the  loss
 of  her  vision,  she  has remained fiercely independent and at the same
 time, a loving mother and grandmother to her entire family; and
 WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her  zest  for  life,  has
 inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
 WHEREAS,  This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
 and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those  with  the  stamina
 and courage to savor a full life; and
 WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
 through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
 charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
 WHEREAS,  It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog
 nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
 and  celebrated  the  innovations,  cultural  developments  and  awesome
 achievements  of  this country during the last century, while themselves
 contributing to the growth and excellence of this  great  Empire  State;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
 congratulate Hazel Fleegel upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday;  and
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran
 smitted to Hazel Fleegel.
