LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Town of Eden WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and commem orate the distinguished histories of the communities which comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem orate the 200th Anniversary of the Town of Eden, in Erie County, New York; and WHEREAS, The first events of this celebration will commemorate the signing of the Town's Charter, which took place on March 12th, 1812; the Town of Eden was established in 1812 by partition of the (now defunct) Town of Willink; later on, Eden gave up territory to form the Towns of Evans and Hamburg; and WHEREAS, The Town of Eden is a rural community, predominantly agricul tural and is centrally located in Western New York, 18 miles south of Buffalo and 12 miles from Lake Erie; the Town occupies about 40 square miles; and WHEREAS, Although primarily agricultural in nature, the Town of Eden houses several light manufacturing firms as well as many small busi nesses; it consists of some of the most fertile, well drained soils in New York State; and WHEREAS, The Town of Eden is a major center for vegetable production and vegetables from Eden Valley are shipped all over Western New York and neighboring states; a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables are available at many farm markets; and WHEREAS, The Town of Eden hosts an annual corn festival that attracts visitors from across New York State, Pennsylvania and Ohio; the Eden Corn Festival is about giving back to the community and the proceeds from this four-day community event is a major source of income for many non-profit charitable organizations and local businesses; and WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of growth and change, the Town of Eden continues its commitment to enhancing the quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive business, institu tional and educational climate, and providing all essential services; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Town of Eden, recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in the life of the commu nity of the State of New York; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran smitted to Town of Eden.
