ATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Town e Pleasant, New York S, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize events of icance which exemplify the history and development of the State of rk; and EAS, Each and every city, town, village and hamlet within its s proudly resonates with the rich and noble history of the State York; and EAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and orate the anniversary of the founding of municipalities throughout ate, noting in turn their contributions to the fabric and progres- f this great Empire State; and EAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long- ng traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem- the 200th Anniversary of the Town of Lake Pleasant, New York; and EAS, Formerly Sageville, the Town of Lake Pleasant, New York, was orated on April 7, 1812; and EAS, After the Civil War, lumbering became the lifeblood of the leasant area, followed by dozens of large and small resort hotels; EAS, Many public recreational opportunities exist in Lake Pleas- aking it a tourist hub in Hamilton County; and EAS, Lake Pleasant is surrounded by vast amounts of New York State Preserve including, the Silver Lake Wilderness Area, the West Lake Wilderness Area, the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area, and the River Wild Forest; and EAS, In 1925, the Village of Speculator, located within the Town ke Pleasant, was incorporated; the Village became the Heavyweight capital, and training camp for such notables as Gene Tunney, Slattery, Max Baer, and Max Schmelling; and EAS, In recognition of the rich history and enduring contribution Town of Lake Pleasant to the heritage of the State of New York, the intent of this Legislative Body to join in commemorating the ennial celebration of the Town of Lake Pleasant so that present uture generations may come to appreciate the unique significance its history plays in the progression of our State and Nation's ion; now, therefore, be it LVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to orate the 200th Anniversary of the Town of Lake Pleasant, New and be it further LVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran- d to the Town of Lake Pleasant, New York.
