LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring Pamela Hardy-Lockley upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Civic Award

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State  of  New  York  to
recognize  and  acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Pamela  Hardy-
Lockley  upon  the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Civic
Award, to be celebrated at the 5th Annual Men of Distinction  and  Women
of Valor Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 17, 2012; and
  WHEREAS,  The Men of Distinction and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony is
held each year to honor and pay just tribute to outstanding  individuals
whose  leadership roles have had a significant impact on the daily lives
of the people of the State of New York; and
  WHEREAS, Pamela Hardy-Lockley is the current President of  the  Linden
Plaza Leaseholders' Tenant Association Council; and
  WHEREAS,  As  part  of this pro-active and hardworking group which was
re-structured and  re-organized  in  January  2010,  Pamela,  the  Board
members and Alternate members, work day and night to help the tenants of
Linden Plaza regain their Mitchell Lama rights, as well as help those in
danger  of  losing  their  apartments as a result of Linden Plaza's 2008
conversion; and
  WHEREAS, Pamela Hardy-Lockley and the Tenant Association Council  have
been successful in fostering a better understanding of the housing chal-
lenges in their community; and
  WHEREAS,  A  lifelong Brooklyn resident, Pamela Hardy-Lockley was born
and raised in the Weeksville and Crown Heights sections of Brooklyn; she
moved to Linden Plaza in the East New York section of Brooklyn in  1975;
and
  WHEREAS,  Pamela  Hardy-Lockley  graduated  from Thomas Jefferson High
School in Brooklyn, New York and attended Long Island  University-Brook-
lyn Campus; and
  WHEREAS,  Pamela's  father, Grand District Deputy Wilbert Hardy of the
Improved  Benevolent  and  Protective  Order  of  Elks  of   the   World
(I.B.P.O.E.  of W.), and her mother, Hazel Cohen of the Brooklyn Chapter
of the Eastern Stars ADA Chapter, taught Pamela  and  her  siblings  the
importance of community service; both parents are now deceased but their
spirit  of love, understanding, and community service lives on, in their
daughter; and
  WHEREAS, Pamela Hardy-Lockley is a member of the  St.  Paul  Community
Baptist  Church  in  Brooklyn,  New  York and is an active member of St.
Paul's Social Justice Ministry; and
  WHEREAS, Pamela Hardy-Lockley has  the  well-deserved  and  unwavering
love  and  support  of  her  family: daughters, Lisa Janelle Lockley and
Jasmine Renee Lockley;  sister-in-law,  Jane  Lockley;  and  stepmother,
Julia  Hagans, who is 98 years young and provides a wealth of invaluable
advice; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  that  those  who
enhance  the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly  have  earned  the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Pamela Hardy-Lockley upon  the  occasion  of  her  designation  as
recipient of the Civic Award; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Pamela Hardy-Lockley.
