LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Jillian Clark upon the occasion of receiving the Girl Scout Silver Award WHEREAS, Jillian Clark will be honored with the Girl Scout Silver Award, for 11 to 14-year-old girls and Girl Scouting's second highest achieve ment, at a Girl Scouts of America Awards Ceremony, to be held at the Herricks Community Center in New Hyde Park, New York, on Wednesday, May 23, 2012; and WHEREAS, Jillian Clark resides in Williston Park, New York; she is an eighth grade student at Herricks Middle School and is a member of Troop 1561; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our nation's young people the goals of building solid values of sisterhood and the importance of work ing with others, stimulating both mind and body, instilling pride, and encouraging community service and success; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has expanded the horizons of the countless young women who have participated in the programs which have made Girl Scouting an American and international institution; and WHEREAS, To earn the Silver Award, Jillian Clark completed five requirements; the first four requirements help girls build skills, explore careers, gain leadership skills, and make a commitment to self improvement and are followed by the completion of the fifth requirement, a Silver Award community service project which Jillian Clark planned, developed and executed; and WHEREAS, For her Silver Award project, Jillian Clark, worked with seven other members of Troop 1561 on two projects; they spent nearly a year working on the Breathe Journey, a program for sixth, seventh and eighth graders during which they explored the air around them and learned about air-clearing strategies; and WHEREAS, For their second project, they, in addition, adopted a local veteran who is currently serving his second tour of duty in Iraq and, on each of the major holidays, they created goody bags of fun food and cards they had made for him which were dropped off at the U.S. Marine Corps base on Stewart Avenue in Garden City for shipment to him; and WHEREAS, The Silver Award symbolizes an 11 to 14-year-old Girl Scout's accomplishments in Girl Scouting and community activities as she matures and works to better her life and the lives of others; it is tangible evidence of Jillian Clark's high character and commitment, and is a harbinger of her future service to her community, New York State and our nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to warmly congratulate Jillian Clark, recognizing her achievement in earn ing the Girl Scout Silver Award and wishing her success, health and happiness; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran smitted to Jillian Clark.
