LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Union College Hockey Team's historic
season

WHEREAS,  The  State  of  New  York takes great pride in recognizing and
honoring the accomplishments of those citizens  and  organizations  who,
through deeds, talent and achievements, add significantly to the quality
and enrichment of the lives of others; and
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to honor the Union
College Hockey Team's historic season; and
  WHEREAS, Union College in the City of Schenectady has a strong  tradi-
tion  of  academics and athletics, and a dedication to the betterment of
its students, the community and New York State; and
  WHEREAS, Union College played its first outdoor game in Eastern Colle-
giate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Hockey history, claiming  victory  over
Harvard,  2-0, at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, the oldest Major
League Baseball park in America; and
  WHEREAS, Union College won NCAA Regionals for the first  time  in  the
program's history; and
  WHEREAS,  This  year,  Union College competed in its first NCAA Frozen
Four Tournament; and
  WHEREAS, Union College won the Cleary Cup for the second straight year
as ECAC Hockey Regular Season Champions, and  won  the  program's  first
ever Whitelaw Cup for the ECAC Hockey Men's Championship; and
  WHEREAS, Coach Rick Bennett received the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year
Award,  and  was  also  a finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award for the
NCAA Division I Coach of the Year; and
  WHEREAS, Sophomore goaltender Troy Grosenick was selected as a  final-
ist  for the Hobey Baker Award, presented to the nation's top Division I
player in Men's College Hockey; and
  WHEREAS, Sophomore goaltender  Troy  Grosenick  (First  Team),  Junior
forward  Jeremy  Welsh  (Second Team) and Sophomore defenseman Mat Bodie
(Second Team) were all named AHCA All-Americans;  the  most  players  to
achieve  All-American  status  ever in a single season in Union Hockey's
history; and
  WHEREAS, Union College matched its program record  for  wins  and,  at
26-8-7  (720),  had the best single-season winning percentage in program
history; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when collegiate
institutions of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citi-
zens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor the Union College Hockey Team's historic season; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members and coaches of the Union College Hockey Team.
