LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of St. Lawrence Gas on May 10, 2012 WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those businesses within the State of New York which contribute to the economic health and vitality of the communities they serve; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem orate the 50th Anniversary of St. Lawrence Gas, to be celebrated on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at River Road Restaurant at the Massena Country Club in Massena, New York; and WHEREAS, St. Lawrence Gas was incorporated in 1957 and served its first natural gas customer in 1962; and WHEREAS, The company provides natural gas to approximately 14,000 residential customers, 1,700 commercial customers and 24 industrial customers; and WHEREAS, St. Lawrence Gas employs 45 employees at its headquarters in Massena, New York, and satellite office in Ogdensburg; the work force is highly trained with over 920 hundred years of collective experience in the natural gas industry; and WHEREAS, As a regulated public utility in the business of selling and transporting natural gas to its customers, the company provides service to the cities, towns and villages of Beaver Falls, Canton, Croghan, Gouverneur, Heuvelton, Lisbon, Madrid, Massena, New Bremen, Norfolk, Norwood, Ogdensburg, Potsdam, Raymondville and Waddington; and WHEREAS, St. Lawrence Gas has installed more than 572 miles of main and service lines within a service territory approximately 800 square miles across Northern New York; and WHEREAS, Over 90% of the business and residential customers located within St. Lawrence Gas's service territory have selected natural gas as their fuel of choice; and WHEREAS, St. Lawrence Gas is a wholly owned subsidiary of Enbridge Gas Distribution, Canada's largest gas distribution utility and one of the fastest growing in North America; and WHEREAS, Enbridge Gas Distribution and its affiliates serve about 2 million customers in central and eastern Ontario, southwestern Quebec and parts of northern New York State; and WHEREAS, Businesses such as St. Lawrence Gas exert a strong, positive influence on the communities they serve and are a crucial element in the economy of New York State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of St. Lawrence Gas on May 10, 2012; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran smitted to St. Lawrence Gas.
