LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Jewish Community Council of Canarsie WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the quality and character of life in the communities across New York State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its citizenry; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem orate the 30th Anniversary of the Jewish Community Council of Canarsie, to be celebrated at its Annual Community Breakfast on Sunday, April 3, 2011, in Brooklyn, New York; and WHEREAS, The Jewish Community Council of Canarsie has provided assist ance to thousands of individuals and families from all walks of life throughout Southeastern Brooklyn; it is dedicated to combating hunger, illiteracy, domestic violence, racism, homelessness and poverty and seeks to exercise, promote and protect the rights of the residents of Southeastern Brooklyn; and WHEREAS, The agency serves nearly 7,000 clients with a wide array of human services throughout the Canarsie, Georgetown, Starrett City and Mill Basin communities; caseworkers assist the needy with case manage ment and information regarding public assistance, food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, and various public and private housing programs; and WHEREAS, A true asset to society, the Jewish Community Council of Canarsie has emerged as a major unifying force amongst the general popu lation of Canarsie through its Canarsie Bridges and Spring Creek activ ities; these particular programs have evolved into the most successful initiatives organized within the Canarsie community, effectively bring ing all ethnic, cultural, religious, and youth groups together; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Jewish Community Council of Canarsie; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran smitted to the Jewish Community Council of Canarsie.
