ATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Janice Seyfried, distin- d citizen and devoted member of her community S, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to ns of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great of New York; and EAS, Janice Seyfried of Wantagh, New York, died on March 17, 2011 age of 72; and EAS, A member of the first graduating class of Wantagh High , Janice Seyfried went on to enroll in the Katharine Gibbs School w York City; after completion of the Gibbs courses, she became ed at the school as the Executive Secretary to the Director while ing night classes at New York University; and EAS, When her family bought a farm in Upstate New York, Janice ed was able to enroll at Elmira College full-time; subsequently arned her Bachelor of Science degree in economics and accounting; EAS, Janice Seyfried returned to Katharine Gibbs School to teach the summer, and began a career as a business teacher in the Bald- nior High School; and EAS, Janice Seyfried completed her Master's of Science degree in ce and counseling at St. John's University and earned her profes- diploma in educational administration from the C.W. Post Campus g Island University; she was licensed in both business guidance a school district administrator; and EAS, This outstanding woman distinguished herself in her profes- nd by her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the e of her community; and EAS, During her tenure at Baldwin Senior High School, Janice ed was instrumental in starting a computer program in the business ment; in 1990, she received the Outstanding Technology Educator of ar Award from the Association of Computer Educators, a tri-state zation of technology teachers; and EAS, A past Officer of the Baldwin Teachers Association, Janice ed was a Union Representative for many years; in 1994, she retired eaching and opened a small graphic arts business from her home lizing in newsletters, journals, and invitations; and EAS, While in retirement, Janice Seyfried worked part-time as a administrator and secretary for three different churches, a r at CompUSA and Hendrix Institute, and a graphic artist for NORTH TODAY, a Richner Publication; and EAS, Janice Seyfried's commitment to excellence, and her spirit of ty, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita- d civic endeavors; and EAS, A member of her church choir, as well as the altar guild, Seyfried chaired St. Jude's Church fair several times, served as clerk, and was elected to the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce Board ectors; and EAS, In February of 1995, Janice Seyfried joined the Wantagh s Club; she served as its President for two terms as well as its on Lieutenant Governor from 2002 to 2003; and EAS, In 1995, Janice Seyfried was instrumental in chartering the Kiwanis Key Club in the world for handicapped or special needs, at in Wantagh, the Center for Community Adjustment (CCA) of Wantagh ub, which is still thriving today; and EAS, Janice Seyfried served as the new club builder for the Kiwan- b of Seaford in 2002 and then for the Kiwanis Club of Uniondale in 2007; and EAS, Janice Seyfried served for seven years as District Public ons Chairperson; in addition, she served as recruiter, new club r, and the division secretary of the Long Island South Central on of the New York District of Kiwanis International; and EAS, Some of her many awards and accolades include the George L. Award, the Kiwanis International Award, the Anton J. Kaiser Award, he Diamond Level Kaiser Award; she also won first place for her nding newsletter in the New York District of Kiwanis and was named an of the Year, for both club and division; and EAS, Furthermore, she was recipient of the George F. Hixson Award, wanis Pediatric Trauma Center Award, the Brittany Award, two KPTC ship Awards; and EAS, In 2011, the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce named Janice ed Citizen of the Year and was given the Woman of Distinction and EAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of sion, and comforted by a loving family, Janice Seyfried leaves a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now, ore, be it LVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to the death of Janice Seyfried, distinguished citizen and devoted of her community; and be it further LVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitable engrossed, be tran- d to the family of Janice Seyfried.
