LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the National Cleaners Association's Coats for Kids program WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the quality and character of life in the communities across New York State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza tions and individuals who are devoted to the welfare of the community and its citizenry; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the National Cleaners Association in New York City and its Coats for Kids program; and WHEREAS, For a quarter of a century, members of the National Cleaners Association (NCA) have been collecting, cleaning and distributing chil dren's coats to those in need throughout the State of New York; and WHEREAS, From Niagara Falls to Montauk, Long Island, NCA members have donated their time, facilities and energy to giving something back to their local communities in the form of cleaned coats for needy children; and
WHEREAS, In recent years, many cleaners have broadened their program activities and established relationships with other community-minded individuals and firms to offer drop-off locations outside their cleaning plants for the collection of used coats; and WHEREAS, Drop-off points can be found statewide in legislative offices, county court houses, various retail outlets, and local elemen tary and secondary schools; and WHEREAS, The coats are picked up at the drop-off points and trans ported to a participating member's store where they are cleaned and repaired prior to distribution; and WHEREAS, The Coats for Kids program ensures that children are not only kept warm, but are kept warm with dignity and pride by being given a clean garment to wear; and WHEREAS, Arthur Epstein, the Chairman of the NCA's Coats for Kids program, cleaned 13,000 coats at his cleaning establishment, and a statewide total of 35,000 coats were cleaned; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to express its highest admiration for all of the individuals involved with the National Cleaners Association's Coats for Kids program, whose efforts have made an invaluable difference in the lives of countless children; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend the National Cleaners Association's Coats for Kids program; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran smitted to Arthur Epstein, Chairman, NCA Coats for Kids, 252 West 29th Street, New York City, New York 10001.
