TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the highway law, in relation to the designation of a portion of the state highway system to be known as the "Highway of Fallen Heroes"
PURPOSE : Designates State Route 20 as the "Highway of Fallen Heroes".
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : The highway law is amended by adding a new section to 343-x, designating route 20 as the "Highway of Fallen Heroes". The Commissioner of Transportation shall provide for the installation and maintenance of adequate signage of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one this Act. This Act shall be one of a ceremonial nature and the official name of the highway shall not be changed as a result.
JUSTIFICATION : In honor of the sacrifice and dedication of veterans, the State of New York wishes to designate route 20 as the "Highway of Fallen Heroes". Our servicemen and women continue to risk and sacrifice much both at home and abroad. This small act aims to show some part of New York's respect and appreciation for our Veteran's.
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY : New bill.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS : Some cost will be incurred.
EFFECTIVE DATE : This Act shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to the designation of a portion of the state highway system to be known as the "Highway of Fallen Heroes" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 343-y to read as follows:
S 343-Y. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "HIGHWAY OF FALLEN HEROES". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING ROUTE 20 WITHIN THE STATE OF NEW YORK SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "HIGHWAY OF FALLEN HEROES."
S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of a ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act.
