LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Joy to the Children Holiday Benefit on December 8, 2011 WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and character of life in New York State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organizations and individuals whose endeavors support and enrich the arts in their communities; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long- standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem- orate the 25th Anniversary of the Joy to the Children Holiday Benefit to support the Lake Placid Center for the Arts (LPCA) to be celebrated at the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa, Lake Placid, New York, on Thursday, December 8, 2011; and WHEREAS, This extraordinary event, established by LPCA Board Trustee and Mirror Lake Inn co-owner, Lisa Weibrecht, has been lighting the way to the arts for children since 1986; and WHEREAS, Every year, Lisa and her husband, Edwin H. Weibrecht, Jr. proudly serve as hosts of the annual fundraiser at the Mirror Lake Inn; all patron tickets, auction proceeds and raffle sales fund the more than 200 area children's programs; and WHEREAS, The funds collected at Joy to the Children benefit ballet and tumbling instruction, after-school arts workshops, summer Camp LPCA programs, art exhibitions, LPCA Children's Musical Theatre and perform- ing-arts school field trips, among many other activities for area chil- dren; and WHEREAS, Subsequently, thousands of students across several counties throughout the Adirondack region are able to participate in these valu- able programs; the event, which typically draws about 500 guests, consists of a silent auction, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a gingerbread house auction and spectacular holiday decorations; and WHEREAS, Homemade gift baskets will be auctioned, and a 50/50 raffle will be held; additional items up for auction will include trips, artwork, jewelry, artisan furniture, clothing and children's toys; new this year, commemorative Joy 25 ornaments will be made available to purchase; and WHEREAS, The Mirror Lake Inn provides an abundance of special holiday touches and elegant decorations, including 11 natural Christmas trees, each decorated in a different theme; outside the Inn, 300,000 twinkling lights and approximately 70 lit trees will illuminate the property; and WHEREAS. The arts are the building blocks of civilization; they are central to human expression and inspire the imagination; individuals and institutions which further such worthy purposes richly merit the recog- nition and appreciation of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Joy to the Children Holiday Benefit on December 8, 2011; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran- smitted to Mr. and Mrs. Edwin H. Weibrecht, Jr.
