LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating John Amoriell upon the occasion of celebrating his 100th Birthday WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and WHEREAS, Born on December 31, 1911, John Amoriell lives alone in the home he bought for $3,000 in 1945; born the second of seven children in Tupper Lake, New York, his parents immigrated from Italy in 1907; and WHEREAS, At age 19, John Amoriell followed his father's footsteps and started working for the railroad; he began with the New York Central Railroad and finished his career with Conrail; and WHEREAS, In 1934 and 1935, John Amoriell served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and met his future wife, Mildred in June of 1936 at the theater; they married in September of 1937; and WHEREAS, John Amoriell's railroad job was abolished in Tupper Lake in 1960, so in order to work he had to travel to places such as Selkirk, Albany, Schenectady, and Utica, to name a few; his wife, Mildred trav- eled with him and they lived in a railroad boarding car; and WHEREAS, John Amoriell was an avid fisherman and has a special love for the woods; currently on no medication and in great health, he cele- brated his 100th Birthday with family and friends at a house party on December 31, 2011; and WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with his zest for life, has inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina and courage to savor a full life; and WHEREAS, This beloved man has enriched the lives of those around him through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, the late Mildred, and their children Sam and Annette, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog- nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate John Amoriell upon the occasion of celebrating his 100th Birthday; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran- smitted to John Amoriell.
