LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  supporting a National ban on high capacity ammo
magazines

WHEREAS, On Saturday, January 8, 2011, a  gunman  used  a  high-capacity
magazine  to  shoot 20 people in a matter of seconds in Tucson, Arizona;
and
  WHEREAS, The purpose for the existence of this device is to be able to
shoot as many people as possible as quickly as  possible;  there  is  no
valid  reason  these  devices should be available to the general public;
and
  WHEREAS, The State of New York  outlawed  high-capacity  magazines  in
Chapter 189 of the Laws of 2000; and
  WHEREAS, The United States Constitution guarantees to our citizens the
right  to  bear arms, we should also be able to come together to develop
reasonable laws designed to ensure that this right is  exercised  safely
and responsibly; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative Body, pause in its deliberations to
support the idea of a national ban on high-capacity ammo magazines.
