LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending Melissa Morrone upon the occasion of
her being honored on March 24, 2011, in conjunction with Women's History
Month in the State of New York

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Melissa  Morrone
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition to be cele-
brated  at  the  Annual  Women's History Celebration at the Cort Club in
Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn, New York, on March 24, 2011; and
  WHEREAS, Women of every race, class, and ethnic background  have  made
historic  contributions  to the growth and strength of New York State in
countless recorded and unrecorded ways; and
  WHEREAS, Each year, the State of New York officially sets  aside  time
to recognize the unique contributions that women have made to this great
Empire State and its society; and
  WHEREAS,  Melissa  Morrone has continually demonstrated extreme compe-
tence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent leadership in her  unwav-
ering service to her community and profession; and
  WHEREAS,  A  Westchester  County native, Melissa Morrone graduated cum
laude from Columbia University as an  English  major  and  received  her
Master's  in  Library  and  Information  Studies  from Montreal's McGill
University in 2002; and
  WHEREAS, Melissa Morrone is currently the Technology Training Special-
ist for the future Information Commons at Brooklyn  Public  Library  and
until  recently, she was the Library Information Supervisor at its Flat-
lands branch; and
  WHEREAS, Melissa Morrone has conducted workshops  at  Brooklyn  Public
Library  as well as community outreach projects on topics such as Inter-
net research, managing information online, and  basic  website  develop-
ment; and
  WHEREAS,  Melissa  Morrone  is  co-author  of a 2009 article, "Radical
Reference: Socially Responsible Librarianship Collaborating with  Commu-
nity"; and
  WHEREAS,  Melissa  Morrone has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and  has  always
given of herself unstintingly; and
  WHEREAS,  In  addition  to librarianship, Melissa Morrone is active in
local social justice  groups,  including  the  books-to-prisoners  group
Books Through Bars; and
  WHEREAS,  Throughout  the  entire  period  of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Melissa Morrone has  stood  constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Melissa  Morrone,  and  to  wish  her
continued success in all of her future endeavors; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought  to  our  atten-
tion,  they  should  be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commend  Melissa Morrone upon the occasion of her being honored on March
24, 2011, in conjunction with Women's History Month in the State of  New
York; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Melissa Morrone.
