AN ACT to amend the mental hygiene law, in  relation  to  requiring  the
  office  of  alcoholism  and substance abuse services to develop educa-
  tional materials for health  care  providers  relating  to  abuse  and
  misuse of prescription drugs

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Section 19.07 of the  mental  hygiene  law  is  amended  by
adding a new subdivision (i) to read as follows:
  (I)  THE OFFICE OF ALCOHOLISM AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES, IN CONSUL-
TATION WITH THE COMMISSIONER OF HEALTH, SHALL DEVELOP  AND  PUBLISH,  IN
ELECTRONIC  OR  OTHER  FORMAT,  EDUCATIONAL  MATERIALS  FOR  HEALTH CARE
PROVIDERS, AS DEFINED BY SUBDIVISION SIX OF SECTION TWO HUNDRED  THIRTY-
EIGHT  OF  THE  PUBLIC  HEALTH  LAW  TO: ASSIST HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS IN
RECOGNIZING  THE  SYMPTOMS   OF   PRESCRIPTION   DRUG   ABUSE;   PROVIDE
EVIDENCE-BASED  DRUG  SCREENING  INSTRUMENTS;  AND IDENTIFY RESOURCES TO
HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS FOR THE PURPOSE OF PATIENT REFERRALS TO  SUBSTANCE
ABUSE  TREATMENT  PROGRAMS. ALL EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS REFERENCED IN THIS
SUBDIVISION SHALL BE MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE OFFICIAL WEBSITES OF THE
OFFICE AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND BY ANY OTHER MEANS DEEMED APPRO-
PRIATE BY THE COMMISSIONER.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
