AN  ACT  to amend the executive law, in relation to veterans who partic-
  ipated in operation restore hope in Somalia

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The executive law is amended by adding a new section 369 to
read as follows:
  S 369. OPERATION RESTORE HOPE; COMBAT STATUS. ANY VETERAN OF THE ARMED
FORCES  WHO  SERVED  IN SOMALIA DURING OPERATION RESTORE HOPE SHALL, FOR
THE PURPOSES OF OBTAINING  ELIGIBILITY  FOR  ANY  PRIVILEGE  OR  BENEFIT
GRANTED  TO  COMBAT  VETERANS  PURSUANT  TO  THIS  CHAPTER  OR ANY OTHER
PROVISION OF LAW, BE GRANTED THE STATUS  OF  COMBAT  VETERAN  AND  SHALL
OBTAIN ELIGIBILITY FOR ANY SUCH PRIVILEGE OR BENEFIT.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
