AN  ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to requiring adult
  protective services to consult with the local  area  agency  on  aging
  when the individual requiring services is sixty years of age or older

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 2 of section 473 of the social
services law, as added by chapter 446 of  the  laws  of  1979  and  such
section  as renumbered by chapter 991 of the laws of 1981, is amended to
read as follows:
  (a) (1) In that the effective  delivery  of  protective  services  for
adults  requires  a  network  of  professional  consultants and services
providers, local social services districts shall plan with other public,
private and voluntary agencies including  but  not  limited  to  health,
mental  health,  aging,  legal  and  law  enforcement  agencies, for the
purpose of assuring maximum local understanding, coordination and  coop-
erative action in the provision of appropriate services.
  (2)  IN  ACCORDANCE  WITH SUBPARAGRAPH ONE OF THIS PARAGRAPH, WHEN THE
INDIVIDUAL TO BE SERVED PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION IS SIXTY YEARS  OF  AGE
OR  OLDER, THE LOCAL AREA AGENCY ON AGING, EXCEPT IN A CITY WITH A POPU-
LATION OF ONE MILLION OR  MORE,  SHALL  BE  INFORMED  AND  CONSULTED  ON
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES AVAILABLE TO HELP SERVE THE INDIVIDUAL.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
