HIKIND, MAYERSOHN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Educa- tion AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to assisting the parents of children who disrupt the education process, in efforts to curtail such misbehavior THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 3212 of the education law is amended by adding a new paragraph f to read as follows: F. SHALL, IN THE CASE OF AN INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS BEEN DISCIPLINED FOR REPEATED DISRUPTIVE ACTIVITY, VIOLENT ACTS AND/OR A WEAPONS-RELATED OFFENSE, WHEN DIRECTED BY ANY COURT HAVING JURISDICTION AS PROVIDED IN SECTION THREE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED THIRTY-TWO OF THIS PART AND/OR REQUESTED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WHERE SUCH INDIVIDUAL ATTENDS UPON INSTRUCTION, PARTICIPATE IN AN APPROPRIATE PARENTING SUPPORT, COUNSELING OR EDUCATION PROGRAM, AND/OR IN COMMUNITY SERVICE WITH SUCH INDIVIDUAL. WHERE SUCH PERSONS IN PARENTAL RELATION REQUIRE LEAVE FROM WORK TO HELP SCHOOLS CORRECT DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR IN THE INDIVIDUALS ENTRUSTED TO THEIR CHARGE AND CARE, TO ATTEND AND PARTICIPATE IN SUCH PARENTING SUPPORT, COUNSELING, OR EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND/OR TO PARTICIPATE IN SUCH COMMUNITY SERVICE, THE EMPLOYERS OF SUCH PERSONS IN PARENTAL RELATION SHALL PROVIDE SUCH PERSONS WITH UP TO THREE DAYS PER YEAR OF PAID JOB LEAVE FOR THESE PURPOSES. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
