THIELE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to central high school districts in the county of Suffolk THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 1912 of the education law, as added by chapter 732 of the laws of 1981, is amended to read as follows: S 1912. Formation of central high school districts in the county of Suffolk. A central high school district may be formed by the combina- tion of two or more central, union free or common school districts in the county of Suffolk. The territory shall be contiguous, EXCEPT THAT IN THE TOWNS OF SOUTHAMPTON AND EAST HAMPTON IN THE COUNTY OF SUFFOLK, WHERE AT LEAST ONE OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAS AN ENROLLMENT OF LESS THAN ONE THOUSAND STUDENTS AND DOES NOT OPERATE A HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR GRADES NINE-TWELVE, THE TERRITORY OF THE PROPOSED CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT NEED NOT BE CONTIGUOUS.
