CUSICK -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to prohibiting U turns in school zones during posted hours THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 1161 of the vehicle and traffic law, as amended by chapter 157 of the laws of 1978, is amended to read as follows: S 1161. U turns in certain areas prohibited. A. No motor vehicle shall make a U turn upon any curve, or upon the approach to, or near the crest of a grade, where such motor vehicle cannot be seen by the driver of any other motor vehicle approaching from either direction within five hundred feet. B. NO MOTOR VEHICLE SHALL MAKE A U TURN WITHIN A SCHOOL ZONE DURING POSTED HOURS. SUCH SCHOOL ZONE AND HOURS SHALL BE DESIGNATED BY SIGNAGE CONSISTENT WITH 17 NYCRR CHAPTER V, SECTION 7B.09. S 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD07107-02-3

S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed- ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
