BILL NUMBER:A9959 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 20 of the laws of 1998 amending the education law relating to the provision of physical therapy assist- ant services in public and private primary and secondary schools, in relation to extending the effectiveness of such chapter PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Provides a 5 year extension of the law allowing physical therapy assistants to provide services in public and private primary and secondary schools. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: The bill amends section 2 of chapter 20 of the laws of 1998 to extend for an additional 5 years the law which allows physical therapy assistants to provide services in public and private primary and secondary schools. JUSTIFICATION: Chapter 20 of the laws of 1998 authorized physical thera- py assistants to provide services in primary and secondary schools with- out direct on-site supervision by a physical therapist.. There contin- ues to be a demand for these services in these settings across the state. This legislation will ensure the continuity of these services for an additional 5 years. CANESTRARI -- read once and referred to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend chapter 20 of the laws of 1998 amending the education law relating to the provision of physical therapy assistant services in public and private primary and secondary schools, in relation to extending the effectiveness of such chapter THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 20 of the laws of 1998 amending the education law relating to the provision of physical therapy assistant services in public and private primary and secondary schools, as amended by chapter 36 of the laws of 2005, is amended to read as follows: S 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall remain in effect until June 30, [2010] 2015 when upon such date the provisions of this act shall expire and be deemed repealed. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD15775-01-0
