LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of New York City Police Offi cer Alain Schaberger WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its heart felt gratitude and deep regret in recognition of the loss of a coura geous police officer who dedicated his life and career to serve and protect the people of New York; and WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Legislative Body records the passing of New York City Police Officer Alain Schaberger, who made the ultimate sacrifice on March 13, 2011, while faithfully and coura geously executing his responsibilities in the line of duty, protecting the residents of Brooklyn, New York; and WHEREAS, A resident of Cortlandt Manor, New York, Officer Alain Scha berger was born in Vietnam, grew up in East Islip, New York, served in the United States Navy and became a member of the New York Police Department in 2001; and WHEREAS, In his capacity as an NYPD officer, Alain Schaberger helped the city recover from the attacks of September 11, 2001; he protected residents, businesses and visitors from around the world in the Midtown South precinct; he also served the people of Brooklyn with honor and distinction as an officer assigned to the 84th Precinct since 2006; and WHEREAS, Police Officer Alain Schaberger died in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call in the early hours of March 13, 2011; and WHEREAS, Officer Alain Schaberger is mourned deeply by his friends and family, by his thousands of brothers and sisters in the New York Police Department, and by all New Yorkers whose safety he lost his life to protect; and WHEREAS, Officer Alain Schaberger is treasured not only as a police officer, a navy veteran and dedicated New Yorker, but also as a son, a brother, an uncle, a fiance, and a father to the children he helped raise lovingly and faithfully with his fiancee Shoshone Perguese; and WHEREAS, The honorable service of Officer Alain Schaberger is worthy of gratitude and recognition from the people of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the loss of Alain Schaberger, and to honor the life of this veter an, police officer and true public servant, expressing the appreciation of all New Yorkers for his service to the community; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran smitted to the family of Police Officer Alain Schaberger.
