LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Andrew J. Matonak upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the 2013 President's Award by the
Capital District YMCA on April 23, 2013

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
distinguished careers of those outstanding educational leaders, whose
dedication and achievements have been instrumental in developing charac-
ter and academic excellence in the young people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Andrew J. Matonak upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2013 President's Award by the Capital District YMCA to be celebrated
at its Annual Recognition Dinner at the Albany Marriott on Tuesday,
April 23, 2013; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious award is presented annually to the mission
champions of the Association; it honors individuals for their outstand-
ing service, dedication, commitment and contributions they provide to
the Capital District YMCA and their community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Andrew J. Matonak is an educator by trade; he is also an
advocate for the regional business community, a firm believer in the
economic philosophy that a rising tide lifts all boats; and
WHEREAS, He is a champion for cultivating and nourishing relationships
among the area's many organizations, businesses and industries; and
WHEREAS, Better known as Drew around campus, Dr. Andrew J. Matonak
became President of Hudson Valley Community College in 2005, moving to
the Capital Region and instantly connecting with the community; and
WHEREAS, For the past eight years, Dr. Andrew J. Matonak has immersed
himself in the economic and cultural fabric of the community; he now
embarks on another chapter of service, assuming a vital leadership role
as Chair of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of
Directors; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Andrew J. Matonak has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Andrew J. Matonak upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2013 President's Award by the Capital District YMCA on
April 23, 2013; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Andrew J. Matonak.
