LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Alan Barrish upon the occasion of his
retirement as the Director of the Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library
of Monticello, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of certain exemplary
institutions and individuals whose purpose is dedicated to serving the
community and the needs of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor and
commend Alan Barrish upon the occasion of his retirement as the Director
of the Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library of Monticello, New York
after 25 years of dedicated and distinguished service to the citizens
and institutions of Monticello and surrounding Sullivan County communi-
ties; and
WHEREAS, Alan Barrish has served as the Library's Director since 1988;
as Director, he has supervised the day to day operations of the library;
he has been responsible for the supervision of the library's staff, the
maintenance of the library's collection, liaison with the library's
Board, and management of the library's budget; and
WHEREAS, Alan Barrish earned a Master of Library Science degree from
the University of Kentucky, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences
from the State University College at Oswego, and an associate degree in
Data Processing from Lexington Technical Institute (now Bluegrass Commu-
nity College); and
WHEREAS, Alan Barrish served on the faculty of the University of
Kentucky, College of Library and Information Science as the Information
Specialist for the Kentucky Department for Environmental Services from
1984 through 1986; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Alan Barrish received the prestigious New York
Library Dewey Fellowship from the New York Library Association and,
among his many publications, he co-wrote the article "Strategic Planning
and the Small Public Library: A Case Study" published in the
September/October 1991 edition of PUBLIC LIBRARIES; and
WHEREAS, Alan Barrish has rendered faithful, conscientious and valu-
able service to the Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library and those it
serves for 25 years; he has served with loyalty, honor and distinction
and has justly earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues and community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Alan Barrish upon the occasion of his retirement as the Director
of the Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library of Monticello, New York; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Alan Barrish.
