LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Sullivan County Retired Senior
Volunteer Program upon the occasion of its 40th Anniversary Celebration
on May 13, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize organiza-
tions of enduring tradition which faithfully serve the needs of the
community and its citizens with diligence and compassionate commitment
to improving the quality and dignity of life in the community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Sullivan County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) upon the
occasion of its 40th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The Sullivan County RSVP will celebrate this joyous occasion
with a luncheon to be held at the Villa Roma Resort and Conference
Center in Callicoon, New York on Monday, May 13, 2013; and
WHEREAS, RSVP is America's largest volunteer network for people age 55
and over; when a person joins RSVP they join nearly 500,000 volunteers
across the country who work on a variety of projects, programs and
issues in their communities and elsewhere; and
WHEREAS, RSVP offers a full range of volunteer opportunities with
thousands of local and national organizations; when someone joins RSVP
they choose how and where they want to serve, how much time they want to
give, and whether they want to draw on skills they already have or want
to develop new ones; and
WHEREAS, Established forty years ago, the Sullivan County Retired
Senior Volunteer Program places interested persons in meaningful volun-
teer opportunities; the volunteers share their time, experience and
knowledge with others in their communities and use their experiences to
tutor children, assist at hospitals, help adults with literacy needs,
deliver meals on wheels, or volunteer with an area organization or
institution, or at a one time community event; and
WHEREAS, Older New Yorkers bring their special wisdom, experience, and
enthusiasm to countless endeavors, helping to shape and strengthen the
character of our communities and the quality of our lives; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Sullivan County RSVP exemplify the
millions of New York State residents who are 60 years of age or older;
they help to preserve the customs, traditions, and values of the many
ethnic groups which comprise the rich fabric of the community of the
State of New York and they are vital, integral and contributing members
of our society; and
WHEREAS, The Sullivan County Retired Senior Volunteer Program has a
proud tradition of helping the older citizens of its community remain
valuable, involved, and productive members of the community as they
reach the fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, The threads which form the quality and character of senior
life are woven through dedicated service, carefully rendered, by such
organizations of purposeful goodwill as the Sullivan County Retired
Senior Volunteer Program; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Sullivan County Retired Senior Volunteer Program upon the
joyful occasion of its 40th Anniversary Celebration on May 13, 2013,
commending it for its purposeful endeavors and noting the tradition of
caring service it has established; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Sullivan County Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
