LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Doris Dominie on the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday on February 22, 2013

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Doris was born on February 22, 1913, in Churubusco, New York,
to Alfred and Cora Miller Viancour; she grew up in Hermon, New York, on
her parents' farm; and
WHEREAS, Doris moved to Canton, New York, upon her marriage to Leonard
Dominie on April 14, 1931, where she remained a part of the Canton farm-
ing community for more than 40 years, until their retirement in 1972;
and
WHEREAS, Upon the death of her husband in 1989, Doris Dominie moved to
a senior citizens housing apartment in Canton, and then to the Maplewood
Campus of the United Helpers Nursing Home where she currently resides;
and
WHEREAS, A 100th Birthday celebration was held at the Maplewood Campus
on February 24, 2013, where she was joined by her three children,
Bernard Dominie, Margaret Ames, and Jean Salton, and many of her 12
grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchil-
dren, as well as numerous other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman, who has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life, has inspired the lives of her
many friends and family; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for life and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Doris Dominie upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Doris Dominie.
