LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Association of Physicians of
Pakistani Descent of North America upon the occasion of hosting its
Spring Convention

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with its
time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those organiza-
tions which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of cultural
diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of New York
State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Associ-
ation of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America upon the occa-
sion of hosting its Spring Convention at the Hilton Hotel on April
12-14, 2013, in New York City; and
WHEREAS, The Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North
America (APPNA) is an American physicians not for profit organization;
formerly known as the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North Amer-
ica when it started in 1976, it was formally incorporated in 1977; and
WHEREAS, APPNA is one of the largest ethnic medical societies in North
America representing more than 17,000 physicians and health care profes-
sionals of Pakistani descent serving across the United States and Cana-
da; it is a charitable organization dedicated to fostering scientific
development and education in the field of medicine and to delivering
better health care, irrespective of race, color, creed, or gender; and
WHEREAS, APPNA represents the interest of nearly 40,000 physicians of
Pakistani heritage, and its members have been practicing for many years
in urban, inner cities as well as rural communities; it also serves as
an umbrella organization for over 1,200 physicians living and practicing
medicine in the New York area; in addition, its members participate in
medical relief and other charitable activities at home and abroad, such
as the activities in the aftermath of 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the 2005
Pakistan Earthquake, and other natural disasters and humanitarian
campaigns around the world; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, APPNA's distinguished record merits
the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North
America upon the occasion of hosting its Spring Convention; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Pervaiz Iqbal, Spring Convention Chair, Association of
Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America.
