LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending  the  Italian  Heritage  and Culture
Committee of New York, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 37th Annual
Italian Heritage and Culture Celebration

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping  with  its
time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those organiza-
tions  which  foster  ethnic  pride  and enhance the profile of cultural
diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities  of  New  York
State; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commend
the  Italian  Heritage  and  Culture Committee of New York, Inc.  (IHCC)
upon the occasion of its 37th Annual Italian Heritage and Culture  Cele-
bration designating October as Italian Heritage and Culture Month; and
  WHEREAS, This year's theme is an initiative of the Italian Minister of
Foreign  Affairs,  Giulio  Terzi  Sant'Agata, coordinated by the Italian
Ambassador in the United States,  Claudio  Bisogniero,  and  in  collab-
oration with the Office of the Consul General, Natalia Quintavalle; and
  WHEREAS,  The  New  York  events  will include theme-related lectures,
panels, receptions, and proclamations at every level  of  government  in
concert  with the Italian Consulate, educational institutions, and other
community organizations; and
  WHEREAS, The multifaceted  theme,  highlighting  Italy's  history  and
culture  in  every  area of creative endeavors, will emphasize research,
discovery and innovation, as well as what is evident in Italy's  signif-
icant  historical  contributions  to  world civilization, its connection
with the science, technology, and art of  contemporary  Italy,  and  its
ever-presence throughout the culture and daily life in America; and
  WHEREAS, Special commemorative anniversaries will be noted such as the
Bicentennial  of  Verdi's  birth;  the  700th Anniversary of Boccaccio's
birth; the 500th Anniversary of Machiavelli's The Prince; and  the  50th
Anniversary of the Lamborghini; and
  WHEREAS,  Unique to this year's celebration is not only the production
of the singular Italian Heritage and Culture Committee's  annual  poster
but  also  nine  subsequent  brilliant posters, underscoring the Italian
Government's themes: Music and Theater; Science and Technology; Language
and Literature; Art; Cinema and Photography;  Italian  Brand  &  Design;
Italian  Territories;  Tastes  and Flavors of Italy; and the Next Gener-
ation; and
  WHEREAS, The annual poster depicts Michelangelo's David-Apollo,  pres-
ently  on loan from Museo del Bargello, Florence, Italy, to the National
Gallery in Washington, D.C., where the inaugural event was launched; and
  WHEREAS, IHCC Artistic Director, John DeSantis conceived the  collect-
ible  series,  which  are  available  on  the IHCC website via on demand
printing as they are launched; and
  WHEREAS, On Tuesday, March 12, 2013,  an  Opening  Exhibit  will  take
place at the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute recognizing the
stellar work of John DeSantis, as well as the articulate planning of the
members  of the Board of Directors, which is made up of both Italian and
Italian-American leaders throughout the State of New York; and
  WHEREAS, The year 2013 has been designated by the Government of  Italy
through  the Offices of the Foreign Ministry of Italy and the Embassy in
Washington, DC, as the Year of Italian Culture in the United States; and
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when  individ-
uals  and  committees of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized  by  all  the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  the  Legislative  Body  pause in its deliberations to
commend the Italian Heritage and Culture Committee  of  New  York,  Inc.
upon  the  occasion  of  hosting  its  37th  Annual Italian Heritage and
Culture Celebration, and to extend best wishes  to  the  President/Chair
Joseph  Sciame,  and  all members of the IHCC Board of Directors as they
embark on a year-long celebration; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph Sciame, President/Chair, Italian Heritage and  Culture
Committee of New York, Inc.
