LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commending Center for Family Life upon the occa-
sion of hosting its Celebrating Community Event

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that  the
quality  and  character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of  the
community and its citizenry; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commend
Center  for  Family  Life  upon  the occasion of hosting its Celebrating
Community Event on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, in New York City; and
  WHEREAS, This special festivity will also  recognize  Paul  DiLorenzo,
Senior Director at Casey Family Programs and Corinne Vinal, Principal at
Sunset Park High School; and
  WHEREAS,  Center  for Family Life (CFL) is a neighborhood-based family
and social services organization with deep roots in Sunset Park,  Brook-
lyn; and
  WHEREAS, Since 1978, Center for Family Life has been a force for posi-
tive  change  in  the community; its goal is to strengthen the community
from within by empowering individuals  and  families  to  develop  their
unique potential; and
  WHEREAS,  Every  day,  Center  for  Family Life helps young people and
adults develop the skills they need for secure,  fulfilling  lives;  CFL
offers a comprehensive range of programs and services that address fami-
lies'  needs from every angle including: family counseling and neighbor-
hood-based foster care; cultural, educational and recreational  programs
at neighborhood public schools, adult and youth employment programs; and
an emergency storefront for food and advocacy; and
  WHEREAS, Center for Family Life is embedded in the life of Sunset Park
and functions as a reliable partner to families, schools, local agencies
and  organizations;  its  staff has a close, long-term connection to the
community, and works passionately for change that improves opportunities
and enhances the quality of life of the community; and
  WHEREAS, Its mission is to promote  positive  outcomes  for  children,
adults and families in Sunset Park through the provision of a comprehen-
sive range of neighborhood-based family and social services; it partners
with  the community to provide access to resources and opportunities for
personal growth and the development of interpersonal relationships  that
sustain  and  nurture families, support youth to develop into confident,
capable adults and enrich the quality of  life  for  neighborhood  resi-
dents; and
  WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those individ-
uals and organizations which enhance the well-being and vitality of  the
community  and  have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence
certainly have earned our recognition and applause; now,  therefore,  be
it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Center for Family Life upon the occasion of  hosting  its  Cele-
brating Community Event; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Center for Family Life and the aforementioned honorees.
