LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  Nolly Climes upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the  Frances  Sodrick  Lifetime  Achievement
Award by the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council of Orange County

WHEREAS,  Individuals  who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  to  acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community  service  are  an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is justly proud to honor
Nolly Climes upon the occasion of his designation as  recipient  of  the
Frances  Sodrick  Lifetime  Achievement Award by the Alcoholism and Drug
Abuse Council of Orange County; this auspicious occasion will  be  cele-
brated at the Council's 27th Annual Service Awards Soiree, to be held on
Thursday,  April  18,  2013,  at F.E.A.S.T. at Round Hill in Washington-
ville, New York; and
  WHEREAS, Nolly Climes has worked at Rehabilitation  Support  Services,
Inc.  since 1984 in various capacities, including the last 22 years as a
Program Director in Orange County; and
  WHEREAS, Nolly Climes has played a key role in the expansion of  Reha-
bilitation  Support  Services  in  Orange  and  Sullivan  counties;  his
programs have been  recognized  for  providing  quality  and  innovative
services to hundreds of individuals; and
  WHEREAS,  Extremely  active in the community both through work and the
church, Nolly Climes has been President of JMHCA for the last ten years,
during which the membership of  the  Federation  has  doubled,  and  the
collaboration with county government has improved; and
  WHEREAS,  During Nolly Climes' tenure as President of JMHCA, its advo-
cacy efforts have resulted in Orange County being included in the  down-
state  rate  for  supported housing; JMHCA has partnered with the Orange
County Department of Mental Health and the Department of Social Services
on many projects and trainings, and collaborated with the Orange  County
Department  of  Parks on the Community in Concert; JMHCA has also devel-
oped a strong partnership with Health Home; and
  WHEREAS, Nolly Climes also serves the community by sitting on Communi-
ty Boards that include the TIMES HERALD RECORD People for  People  Fund,
Orange  County  Department of Parks and Recreation, Orange County Office
for the Aging, Human Rights Commission and  Cornell  Cooperative  Exten-
sion; and
  WHEREAS, Nolly Climes previously served for eight years as a member of
the  New  York  State  OMH  Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee and on the
TIMES HERALD RECORD Editorial Board; and
  WHEREAS, Nolly Climes holds a Bachelor's  Degree  in  Psychology  from
Mercy College and a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Marist
College;  he  is  a  Licensed  Mental Health Counselor and has taught at
Marist College and at SUNY Orange; and
  WHEREAS, Married to Mary Flannery, Nolly Climes is  the  father  of  a
daughter, Joan Dilia; and
  WHEREAS,  Born  and raised in La Republica Dominicana and proud of his
Latino heritage, Nolly Climes has been  active  at  the  Church  of  the
Assumption in Maybrook, New York, for many years; and
  WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Nolly Climes has stood

constant  in  dignity,  good grace and humor, and has earned the respect
and admiration of his colleagues, family and friends; and
  WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual  for the benefit of others which Nolly Climes has displayed through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Nolly Climes upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Frances Sodrick Lifetime Achievement Award  by  the  Alcoholism  and
Drug Abuse Council of Orange County; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nolly Climes.
