LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commending Brendan Corrigan upon the occasion of
his designation as the 2013 Junior Firefighter of the Year by the Mineo-
la Junior Fire Department

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today,  and  leaders
of  tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to  commend  Brendan  Corrigan
upon  the  occasion of his designation as the 2013 Junior Firefighter of
the Year by the Mineola Junior Fire Department to be celebrated  at  its
12th  Annual  Juniors'  Installation  Dinner  at  its Department Hall in
Mineola, New York, on Saturday, April 27, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, 15-year-old Brendan Corrigan resides in Williston  Park  with
his  parents,  Frank  and  Maureen  Corrigan,  his  brother, Tim and his
sister, Deirdre; he is a sophomore at Kellenberg Memorial High School in
Uniondale, New York, where he is a member of  the  woodworking  club  as
well as a violinist in the orchestra; and
  WHEREAS, Brendan Corrigan is an exemplary member of the Mineola Junior
Fire  Department who is always at hand when there is work to be done, no
matter the task; his work ethic, initiative and willingness to go  above
and beyond what he is called to do have earned him the respect and admi-
ration of his peers; and
  WHEREAS,  Outside of his work with the Mineola Junior Fire Department,
Brendan Corrigan is very active; he is an  altar  server  and  assistant
teacher  of religious education at Corpus Christi Parish, works at State
Farm Insurance as an intern, and runs his own shoveling business; and
  WHEREAS, Brendan Corrigan keeps his Irish heritage  alive  by  playing
the  Irish  fiddle  and tin whistle, and has made a tradition of playing
tunes for the fire  department  after  the  Mineola  St.  Patrick's  Day
Parade; and
  WHEREAS, Brendan Corrigan enjoys cooking; he dreams of attending culi-
nary school and becoming a chef in his own restaurant; and
  WHEREAS,  The  advisors and members of the Mineola Junior Fire Depart-
ment are extremely proud of Brendan Corrigan and  look  forward  to  his
joining  the  ranks  of  the  Mineola  Volunteer  Fire Department in the
future; and
  WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time  with  family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Brendan
Corrigan desires to be such a firefighter; and
  WHEREAS,  Poised  eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
Junior Firefighter now stands honorably, with just pride in  his  accom-
plishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding
and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by Senior Fire-
fighters, mentors, and his parents; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Brendan Corrigan upon the occasion of  his  designation  as  the
2013  Junior  Firefighter of the Year by the Mineola Junior Fire Depart-
ment; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Junior Firefighter Brendan Corrigan.
