LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commending David H. Pendergast upon the occasion
of his retirement as Lewis County Manager in May of 2013

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body  to  acknowledge  the
significant  milestones  in  the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
David H. Pendergast upon the occasion of his retirement as Lewis  County
Manager in May of 2013; and
  WHEREAS,  David  H. Pendergast has been the Lewis County Manager since
2008; his overall career encompasses 34 years  of  distinguished  public
service at local, state and federal levels, which earned the admiration,
esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
  WHEREAS,  David  H.  Pendergast's  illustrious  public  service  roles
include serving as Chief of  Staff  to  two  county  executives,  Deputy
Commissioner   of   Aviation/Oneida  County,  Intergovernmental  Affairs
Specialist for the Federal Emergency  Management  Agency,  17  years  as
Assistant  Executive  Director  and  then Executive Director of New York
State Soil and Water Conservation and 22 years as Commodities  Coordina-
tor for the New York Farm Bureau; and
  WHEREAS,  In addition, David H. Pendergast was Supervisor for the Town
of Fulton, a County Legislator in the Schoharie County Legislature and a
member of the Middleburgh School Board of Education; and
  WHEREAS, The son of H. Joseph and Doris Pendergast, David  H.  Pender-
gast  comes from a long family tradition of serving the public good; his
father was a County Extension Agent in Lewis County and his grandfather,
Albert Schoff, served for many years as the Lewis County Sheriff; and
  WHEREAS, Throughout his public service  career,  David  H.  Pendergast
served  with  loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in  his
official acts; and
  WHEREAS,  With  him  throughout  have been his daughters, Sarah (Joel)
Bramer, Kathleen (JJ) Meredith and Joanne (Josh) Gravelle,  as  well  as
his  three  grandchildren, Luke, Megan and Noah, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
  WHEREAS, In retirement, David H.  Pendergast  is  looking  forward  to
spending  time with his family, especially his grandchildren, as well as
increased fishing time; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  that  those  who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained  commitment  to  the  maintenance  of  high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and  applause  of  all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend David H. Pendergast upon the occasion of his retirement as Lewis
County Manager in May of 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David H. Pendergast.
