LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring Ronald J. Canestrari upon the occasion
of his designation for special  recognition  by  the  Watervliet  Public
Library on April 12, 2013

WHEREAS,  From  time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals  it  wishes  to  recognize  for  their  valued
contributions  to  the  success  and  progress  of  society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  honor  Ronald  J.
Canestrari  upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the Watervliet Public Library to be celebrated at its  Eighth  Annual
"I  Love My Library" Dinner at the Watervliet Elks Club on Friday, April
12, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, Ronald J. "Ron" Canestrari served the  people  of  the  106th
Assembly  District  as  a  member  of the New York State Assembly for 24
years; he entered office in 1989 and served as the Majority Leader  from
2007 until his retirement in 2012; and
  WHEREAS,  While  an  Assemblyman,  Ron  Canestrari was Chairman of the
Higher Education Committee, and  a  member  of  standing  committees  on
Banks, Labor, Local Government, Rules, and Ways and Means; and
  WHEREAS,  A  long-time supporter of the Watervliet Public Library, Ron
Canestrari was instrumental in obtaining grants and other financial  aid
to benefit the Library; and
  WHEREAS,  Ron  Canestrari  was raised in Cohoes, New York; in 1965, he
received a bachelor of science degree from Fordham University, and  then
in 1968, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from Fordham Law School; and
  WHEREAS,  From 1968 until 1971, Ron Canestrari served his country as a
member of the United States Army; and
  WHEREAS, He also served the City of Cohoes  as  its  Mayor  from  1976
until 1989; and
  WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual  for  the  benefit  of  others  which  Ron  Canestrari has displayed
throughout his life; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  that  those  who
enhance  the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly  have  earned  the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ronald J. Canestrari upon the  occasion  of  his  designation  for
special  recognition by the Watervliet Public Library on April 12, 2013;
and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ronald J. Canestrari.
