Honoring Simeen G. Tabatabai on receiving the Bertha E. Brimmer Medal

LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Simeen G. Tabatabai upon the occasion of
her  designation  as  recipient  of the Bertha E. Brimmer Medal from the
University at Albany Alumni Association

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride  in  acknowledging  its
esteemed residents who have distinguished themselves in their profession
and in their community; and
  WHEREAS,  Simeen  G.  Tabatabai  will  be honored by the University at
Albany Alumni Association with the Bertha E. Brimmer  Medal  during  its
Excellence  Awards  Gala  to  be  held at the Albany Hilton on April 20,
2013; and
  WHEREAS, This prestigious honor  is  bestowed  upon  alumni  who  have
exhibited excellence in and dedication to teaching K-12; and
  WHEREAS,  Simeen  earned  a  bachelor's  degree from the University in
1999, and a master's in 2003; and
  WHEREAS, She began her distinguished career in  education  in  Nigeria
and  later moved to the Middle East, where she served as an English as a
Second Language (ESL) tutor from 1982 until 1991; and
  WHEREAS, Simeen has taught in the United States for the past 10 years,
and is currently a fifth grade reading teacher for North Colonie Central
Schools; and
  WHEREAS, She is  widely  applauded  for  her  ability  to  adjust  her
instruction to meet the individual needs of all of her students; and
  WHEREAS,  Simeen was one of only seven percent of New York teachers to
receive a Highly Effective rating from New York State, evidence that her
students' growth was well above the State average for similar  students;
  WHEREAS,  She  is committed to teacher leadership and research, and is
an active member of many school and district-wide committees, as well as
the North Colonie District Globalization Task Force; and
  WHEREAS, Simeen continues to contribute to the  University  at  Albany
community  through  her  service  as a teaching assistant in its Reading
Department and as member of a research project funded  by  the  Longview
Foundation  for Education in World Affairs and International Understand-
ing; and
  WHEREAS, She has exhibited the true spirit of the  Bertha  E.  Brimmer
Medal  through  her  extraordinary  success and dedication to education;
now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
congratulate Simeen G. Tabatabai upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient  of  the Bertha E. Brimmer Medal from the University at Albany
Alumni Association; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Simeen G. Tabatabai.
