LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High
School Athletic Teams and coaches for their outstanding 2012 Fall Season

WHEREAS,  Excellence  and  success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured  by
dedicated  coaching  and strategic planning as well as the encouragement
and love of family and friends; and
  WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the values of teamwork,  encouraging  a  standard  of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
  WHEREAS,  The  Burnt  Hills-Ballston Lake High School has performed to
the highest abilities and has accomplished a  superior  season  in  many
sports,  winning  two  State  Championships and six Section II Champion-
ships; and
  WHEREAS, The Varsity Football Team, led by Coach Matthew Shell, earned
the title of New York State Class A Division  I  Champions,  Section  II
Class  A  Champions,  New York State Class A Champions and Ranked 1st in
the State while earning 12 victories in their Fall 2012 season and main-
taining a Scholar Athlete academic average of 93.6; and
  WHEREAS, The Girls Volleyball Team, led by Coach  Gary  Bynon,  earned
the  title  of  North  Division Champions, Class A Section II Champions,
Regional Champions and the New York State Class A Champions while  earn-
ing  28  victories in their Fall 2012 season while maintaining a Scholar
Athlete academic average of 96.0, the highest average for Girls  Volley-
ball in the State; and
  WHEREAS, The Girls Cross Country Team, led by Coach Shaun Zepf, earned
the  titles  of Class A Section II Finalists, placed 3rd in the New York
State Federation and ranked 3rd in New York State  while  earning  eight
victories throughout the season and maintained a Scholar Athlete academ-
ic average of 97.7; and
  WHEREAS,  The  Girls  Soccer Team, led by Coach Brian Bold, earned the
titles of Class A Section II Champions and were Regional Finalists while
earning 15 victories throughout their season while maintaining a Scholar
Athlete academic average of 93.4; and
  WHEREAS, The Boys Cross Country Team, led by Coach Chip Button, earned
the rank of Class A Section II Finalists and ranked 20th in the New York
State Federation, while maintaining a Scholar Athlete  academic  average
of 94.7; and
  WHEREAS, The Field Hockey Team, led by Coach Kelly Vrooman, earned the
title  of  Class B Sectional Champions and were regional finalists while
earning a Scholar Athlete academic average of 96.4; and
  WHEREAS, The Girls Swimming Team, led by Coach Matt Turner, earned the
title of Section II Division II Champions and sent six girls to  States,
winning five matches this year, while earning a Scholar Athlete academic
average of 93.8; and
  WHEREAS,  The Girls Tennis Team, led by Coach Karen Layton, earned the
title of Class A Section  II  Champions  and  were  Regional  Finalists,
winning  12  matches  and  earning a Scholar Athlete academic average of
96.4; and
  WHEREAS, The Boys Volleyball team, led by Coach Paul Sanders, went  on
to  win  21  matches while earning a Scholar Athlete academic average of
92.7; and
  WHEREAS, The High School Golf Team  won  seven  competitions  and  one
player  qualified  for  States,  while the team earned a Scholar Athlete
average of 93.1; and

  WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and the coaches and all of the exceptional athletes have
clearly made a contribution to the  spirit  of  excellence  which  is  a
tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High  School  Athletic  Teams
and  coaches  on  their  outstanding  2012  Fall Season and overall team
records; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Director of  Physical  Education  and  Athletics,  Robert
McGuire,  and to the outstanding Coaching Staff of the Burnt Hills-Ball-
ston Lake High School Athletic Teams of the Fall 2012 season.
