LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commending the student body of South Glens Falls
High School upon the occasion of participating in its 36th Annual  South
High Marathon Dance, benefiting numerous charities throughout its commu-
nity

WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great  Empire  State  who  have
made  strong  contributions  to  their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the  student
body of South Glens Falls High School upon the occasion of participating
in its 36th Annual South High Marathon Dance, benefiting numerous chari-
ties throughout its community; and
  WHEREAS,  On  March  1-2, 2013, 710 students of South Glens Falls High
School raised a significant amount to be donated to  40  charities;  the
school  has  been  holding  these  dance  marathons since 1978, and this
year's amount is a record; the children danced around the clock as  part
of  the  annual event held in the Town of Moreau, Village of South Glens
Falls, New York; and
  WHEREAS, The student body of South Glens  Falls  High  School's  dedi-
cation  to  helping  the people of their community is beyond impressive;
this year's donor recipients consist  of  many,  some  of  whom  include
cancer  survivors,  children  and  adults fighting other illnesses, food
pantries, a family recovering from a house fire and others; and
  WHEREAS, The dance marathon was started in 1978, the age of turntables
and disco; it has morphed into a monster event consuming  not  only  the
students,  but  the  community;  kids go door-to-door seeking donations,
sponsor pancake breakfasts, collect bottles and look to the  support  of
family, friends and neighbors; and
  WHEREAS,  Many  in the community of South Glens Falls, fondly remember
their own dancing days; throughout the event, they help direct  traffic,
donate goods for auction, paint faces or cut hair to raise funds; and
  WHEREAS,  This  dance  marathon  is  different  from the old endurance
contests of the past in which the last exhausted  couple  on  the  floor
escapes the tap on the shoulder to win; the teenage dancers get a couple
of  hours to sleep, plenty of food and drinks and some other breaks from
Friday night to Saturday night;  there  also  are  costume  parades  and
opportunities to relax on the gym floor; and
  WHEREAS,  Poised  eagerly  with enthusiasm and determined purpose, the
student body of South Glens Falls High School now stands honorably, with
just pride in its accomplishments and in eager  anticipation  of  future
challenges,  understanding  and  appreciating  the  caring  counsel  and
support provided by teachers, parents, and its  community;  now,  there-
fore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the student body of South Glens Falls High School upon the occa-
sion of participating in its 36th  Annual  South  High  Marathon  Dance,
benefiting  numerous  charities  throughout  its  community;  and  be it
further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Glens Falls High School.
