LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Dolgeville Violet Festival upon the
occasion of its designation as the recipient of the Event of the Year
Award by the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions, individuals and events that are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Dolgeville Violet Festival upon the occasion of its designation as the
recipient of the Event of the Year Award by the Herkimer County Chamber
of Commerce; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the Cham-
ber's 43rd Annual Membership Meeting and Luncheon, to be held on Thurs-
day, April 28, 2011, at the Crystal Chandelier Restaurant.; and
WHEREAS, The 13th Annual Dolgeville Violet Festival will be held in
Dolgeville, New York, on June 10-12, 2011; this year's event will cele-
brate local violet hybridizer, Lyndon Lyon and Lyon Greenhouses for
their famous African violets; and
WHEREAS, Held on the second weekend in June every year, the Dolgeville
Violet Festival is not just a one time event during the summer, but a
year round effort by the residents of Dolgeville, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Dolgeville Violet Festival preserves the historical
aspects of the Village of Dolgeville through the use of innovative,
artistic, and educational displays throughout the year; there is an
emphasis on the communities' rich horticultural history; and
WHEREAS, Free and open to the public, the Dolgeville Violet Festival
annually draws more than 75 vendors, 80 organizations that participate
in the parade, and over 10,000 people to the Village during the three-
day event; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Dolgeville
Violet Festival; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an organ-
ization and event of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to
our attention, it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Dolgeville Violet Festival upon the occasion of its desig-
nation as the recipient of the Event of the Year Award by the Herkimer
County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Dolgeville Violet Festival Committee, P.O. Box 83, Dolge-
ville, New York 13329.
