LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION honoring George and Duffy Lent upon the occasion
of their designation as recipients of the 2013 Good  Neighbor  Award  by
the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly  acknowledge  individuals of remarkable integrity and character
who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic  Empire  State  with
their strong contributions to the community and model citizenship; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body  is  justly  proud  to  honor
George  and Duffy Lent upon the occasion of their designation as recipi-
ents of the 2013 Good Neighbor Award by the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce
on Sunday, April 21, 2013, in Unadilla, New York; and
  WHEREAS, George and Duffy Lent are  both  graduates  of  the  Unadilla
Central  School; George graduated in 1962 from Paul Smith College with a
forestry degree and during that time, he and Duffy were married in 1961;
and
  WHEREAS, George Lent was employed with the U.S. Geological Survey  for
40  years;  in  2004,  both  he  and  Duffy  moved  back to Unadilla and
purchased the house and property which borders  Martin  Brook  Park;  in
2005,  the  Unadilla Park Commission made George and Duffy Lent stewards
of the Park; and
  WHEREAS, During the summer months in the  morning,  George  and  Duffy
Lent  open the gates of the park to the community making sure the pavil-
ion and picnic areas are clean; in addition, they  explore  and  inspect
the property of the 15 acre park to keep it fully operational; and
  WHEREAS, Upon moving back to Unadilla, George and Duffy Lent have been
involved  with various environmental issues; concerned about keeping the
environment clean, they began a  recycling  center  for  families  which
expanded  to 50 families in participation; as the center grew too large,
the Lent family went to the Town of Lawrence to have a recycling facili-
ty put in place while continuing to  volunteer  their  services  at  the
facility; and
  WHEREAS,  George  and  Duffy Lent have a special love for the outdoors
which is evident with their gardens of fruit and vegetables;  they  both
volunteer for the local food pantry; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought  to  our  atten-
tion,  they  should  be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity  to
express  its  highest  admiration  for George and Duffy Lent and to wish
them continued success in all of their future endeavors; now, therefore,
be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  George  and  Duffy Lent upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the 2013 Good Neighbor Award by the  Unadilla  Chamber  of
Commerce; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to George and Duffy Lent.
