LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Cyd Charrow, DSW, upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition  by  the  Friends  of  Senior
Services, Inc. on April 27, 2013

WHEREAS,  It  is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the  communities  across  New  York
State  are  reflective  of  the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of  the  community  and
its citizenry; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor  Dr.
Cyd  Charrow,  DSW,  upon  the  occasion  of her designation for special
recognition by the Friends of Senior Services, Inc. at  its  2013  Monte
Carlo  Night  to  be held at the Sandel Senior Center on Saturday, April
27, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, Dr. Cyd Charrow, DSW, Director of Rockville Centre Department
of Senior Services, has given not only of her time and energies but also
of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has been
designated as the 2013 Monte Carlo Night Honoree; and
  WHEREAS, Friends of Senior  Services,  Inc.  (FOSSI)  is  an  advocate
organization  dedicated to providing an articulate and unified voice for
the seniors of Rockville Centre and the surrounding communities; and
  WHEREAS, Under 28 years of the dedicated leadership of Dr.  Cyd  Char-
row,  the Rockville Centre Department of Senior Services has experienced
tremendous growth and success; and
  WHEREAS, Today the Sandel Center serves unprecedented numbers of older
adults with a variety of educational programs, physical fitness,  volun-
teer and recreational opportunities; and
  WHEREAS,  A  recognized  model in the provision of services for senior
citizens, the Sandel Center is widely known as a "Gold Standard",  often
copied, but never equaled by other municipalities; and
  WHEREAS, Dr. Cyd Charrow's efforts were nationally recognized in 2002;
the Sandel Center became the first Senior Center on Long Island, and the
85th  in  the country to achieve the prestigious designation of Accredi-
tation by the National Council on Aging and the  National  Institute  of
Senior Centers; and
  WHEREAS, During her tenure, Dr. Cyd Charrow has earned multiple awards
and  recognitions for exemplary programming and her tireless work in the
promotion of "Vital Aging"; she embodies that concept as  well,  with  a
life  dedicated  to health, exercise, continued educational pursuits and
self improvement; and
  WHEREAS, This remarkable  woman's  enthusiasm  and  positive  attitude
continue to inspire Sandel Center members and its devoted staff to be on
the cutting edge of the field of Senior Services; and
  WHEREAS,  Throughout  the  entire  period  of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Cyd Charrow has  stood  constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
  WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual  for  the  benefit  of  others  which  Dr. Cyd Charrow has displayed
throughout her life; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  that  those  who
enhance  the  wellbeing and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly  have  earned  the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Cyd Charrow, DSW, upon the occasion  of  her  designation  for

special  recognition  by the Friends of Senior Services, Inc.; and be it
further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Cyd Charrow.
