LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commending outgoing President Ho Su Kwak for his
distinguished service to the Korean Seafood Association of New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  to  recognize  and
commend  the  leaders  of  commerce  and  industry who contribute to the
economic health and prosperity and the quality of life, of the  communi-
ties of the State of New York; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commend
outgoing  President Ho Su Kwak for his distinguished service and commit-
ment to the Korean Seafood Association of New York (KSANY); and
  WHEREAS, Since its inception in January of 1977, KSANY  has  protected
the  rights  of  Korean  seafood  retailers  in the seafood business and
provided educational and financial support to local seafood  businesses;
and
  WHEREAS, Ho Su Kwak has been a valued and involved member of KSANY for
many  years,  and  has  served  the organization in numerous capacities,
including, most recently, as 20th President of KSANY; and
  WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Ho Su Kwak,  KSANY  held  its
annual  Scholarship Foundation Benefit Golf Tournament in 2012, and as a
result, 15 students in need were awarded scholarships to  further  their
education; and
  WHEREAS,  Along  with  other  community organizations, on May 4, 2012,
KSANY provided a local senior center with financial assistance  to  help
them to keep its doors open; and
  WHEREAS,  On  October  18,  2012,  KSANY  strengthened its cooperative
relationship  with  the  Korea  Overseas  Fisheries  Association  (KOFA)
through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the purposes of exchang-
ing  information  and  conducting  collaborative studies in the field of
fisheries; and
  WHEREAS, Over the years, many Korean seafood retailers at Fulton  Fish
Market have been the victims of unfair treatment and deceptive practices
by  some  wholesalers,  who  mislabel  names, prices and weights of fish
offered for sale; and
  WHEREAS, As President, Ho Su Kwak was instrumental  in  ensuring  that
the voices of the Korean seafood retailers were heard; and
  WHEREAS,  Ho Su Kwak has served KSANY and its members for the past two
years with dedication to protect the rights of Korean Americans  in  the
seafood  business  and foster positive relationships with other communi-
ties, including cultural groups, educational institutions,  and  govern-
mental agencies; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the practice of this Legislative Body that when indi-
viduals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all  the  citizens  of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend outgoing President Ho Su Kwak for his distinguished  service  to
the  Korean  Seafood  Association of New York, and to wish him continued
success in his future endeavors; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ho Su Kwak.
