LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the Grand Opening of the Motorcy-
clepedia Museum in Newburgh, New York, on April 16, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality of
life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by its
exceptional cultural, educational and recreational institutions; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the Grand Opening of the Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburgh, New
York, on April 16, 2011; and
WHEREAS, For years, the sport of motorcycling has provided enjoyment
and entertainment, as well as physical and mental benefit to its riders;
in addition, this thrilling sport often forms a fraternal spirit between
motorcycle owners, users and enthusiasts; and
WHEREAS, Ted Doering, owner of the Motorcyclepedia Museum, and his
father, Gerald Doering, have collected motorcycles for a combined 100
years; and
WHEREAS, The opening of this 85,000 sq. ft. museum provides Ted Doer-
ing an opportunity to showcase his remarkable collection for the enjoy-
ment of motorcycle enthusiasts and the general public; and
WHEREAS, The Motorcyclepedia Museum will house a collection of 300
motorcycles, some dating back as far as 1897, in addition to artifacts,
memorabilia and exhibits provided by the Antique Motorcycle Foundation;
and
WHEREAS, The bikes on display include the first Indian built in 1901,
a 1897 DeDion, and a police escort vehicle that was part of President
John F. Kennedy's motorcade the day he was assassinated; and
WHEREAS, The Motorcyclepedia Museum also showcases Military, Police
and Harley Davidson galleries, and the Wall of Death, also known as a
Motordrome; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is honored to recognize those special
places within the Empire State which provide recreational opportunity
for residents and which contribute to the cultural diversity and quality
of life in the communities of the State of New York; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Grand Opening of the Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburgh,
New York, on April 16, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ted Doering, Motorcyclepedia Museum, 250 Lake Street,
Newburgh, New York 12550.
