LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending  the  South  Colonie  Central School
District upon the occasion of its designation as a 2013  Best  Community
for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation

WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this Legislative Body to commend those
musical programs within our schools which distinguish themselves through
their ability to inspire  students  to  achieve  excellence  in  musical
performance; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commend
the  South  Colonie  Central  School  District  upon the occasion of its
designation as a 2013 Best Community for Music  Education  by  the  NAMM
Foundation; and
  WHEREAS,  The NAMM Foundation seeks to advance active participation in
music-making across the  lifespan  by  supporting  scientific  research,
philanthropic  giving and public service programs from the international
music products industry; and
  WHEREAS, The Best Community for Music Education designation recognizes
collaborative, from-the-ground-up efforts of  teachers,  administrators,
students,  and  parents who continually work to keep comprehensive music
education as an integral part of the core curriculum; and
  WHEREAS, The South Colonie Central School  District  has  earned  this
esteemed  honor in recognition of its outstanding commitment to actively
promoting and nurturing a broad music program for all of  its  students;
and
  WHEREAS,  The  South  Colonie Central School District employs 20 music
teachers, and is supportive of the efforts of those dedicated  educators
to develop and enhance the individual talents of their students; and
  WHEREAS,  The South Colonie Central School District enjoys significant
student participation in its music programs; more than 80% of its middle
school students have some involvement in  music,  and  more  than  1,500
students play in band, orchestra, or chorus; and
  WHEREAS,  Each  young  musician  in  the  South Colonie Central School
District is deserving  of  recognition  and  acclaim  for  demonstrating
remarkable commitment to perfecting their musical abilities; and
  WHEREAS, Learning how to play an instrument can boost student achieve-
ment and thereby contribute to the goal shared by parents, educators and
communities throughout this great State and Nation, academic success for
all students; and
  WHEREAS,  Music study is most worthy of being encouraged and promoted;
by providing students avenues for self-expression,  tools  for  mastery,
and  opportunities  to  exhibit their skills to an audience, they attain
self-esteem to last a lifetime; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commend  the  South Colonie Central School District upon the occasion of
its designation as a 2013 Best Community for Music Education by the NAMM
Foundation; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the South Colonie Central School District.
