LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  Rachael  Murray  upon the occasion of
being selected as the Upstate New  York  Chapter  of  the  Leukemia  and
Lymphoma Society's 2013 Girl of the Year

WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those outstanding individuals  whose  personal  triumphs  and
extraordinary spirit and determination are an inspiration to others; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body  is  justly  proud  to  honor
Rachael  Murray  upon  the occasion of being selected as the Upstate New
York Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's  2013  Girl  of  the
Year; and
  WHEREAS,  The individual selected as the Girl of the Year is chosen by
the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for her  strength  and  courage  while
battling  leukemia;  she  serves as an example for thousands of children
across the United States who are winning the war against  blood  cancer;
and
  WHEREAS,  Rachael Murray is a vibrant, enthusiastic, fun-loving senior
at Tamarac High School; she enjoys  diving,  snowboarding,  hanging  out
with  friends,  shopping,  music, especially The Dave Matthews Band, and
driving her Honda CR-V; and
  WHEREAS, In August of 2012, Rachael Murray was  diagnosed  with  Stage
2A+ Hodgkin's Lymphoma; throughout the many tests, treatments and proce-
dures,  this  extraordinary young woman's courage, positive attitude and
bravery never wavered; and
  WHEREAS, Rachael Murray faced cancer head on and did not let it define
her; each day, she is gaining more and more energy and stamina, and  has
been able to return to school, diving and snowboarding; and
  WHEREAS,  Rachael  Murray,  in  her role as the 2013 Girl of the Year,
serves as an inspiration for local Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Man and
Woman of the Year candidates to raise awareness  and  monetary  contrib-
utions with the hope to find a cure for all blood cancers; and
  WHEREAS, Because of her strength and the sacrifices of her family, the
Leukemia  and  Lymphoma Society is one step closer to achieving its goal
to find a cure for blood cancer so that children like Rachael Murray  do
not suffer the injustice of blood cancer in years to come; and
  WHEREAS,  It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such enduring courage and bravery are brought to our  attention,
they  should  be  celebrated  and recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Rachael Murray upon the occasion of being selected as the Upstate
New York Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's 2013 Girl of the
Year; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rachael Murray.
